San Juan was the birthplace of president Domingo F. Sarmiento, founder of Argetine educational system. His original house can be still visited. But San Juan is full of surprises. From a living past to modern buildings or intense nightlife to calm valleys. There is also an excellent variety of specialised shops and restaurants.
This city, which was rebuilt almost entirely after the earthquake of 1944, is one of the most modern cities in the country. It features numerous squares and parks, sidewalks with trees and earthquake resistant constructions.
